A: Check Driver Assistance system.
If the Safe Exit Warning system in your Kia Carnival experiences an internal error, a persistent warning message will
appear on the instrument cluster, and the Master warning light (
) will illuminate. If the system fails to perform as expected, a
warning notification will be displayed repeatedly, and the Master warning light (
) will signal a fault. In such instances, please visit an
authorized Kia dealer for a professional inspection of your Kia Carnival safety features.
A: Check side-view mirror warning light
Should the warning indicators embedded within the outside rear-view mirrors fail to operate correctly, a warning
message will be triggered on your Kia Carnival cluster for several seconds, accompanied by the Master warning light
(
). Have the Safe Exit Warning system, including
all mirror-integrated alerts, inspected by an authorized Kia dealer immediately to maintain optimal vehicle safety.
If the rear bumper area surrounding the rear corner radar sensors of your Kia Carnival becomes obstructed by foreign
materials—such as heavy snow, road grime, mud, or if a trailer or external carrier is installed—the system's
detection performance may be significantly reduced. Consequently, the Safe Exit Assist function may be temporarily
limited or completely disabled for your safety.
A: Driver Assistance system limited. Radar blocked.
A warning message and the Master warning light (
) will appear on the instrument cluster. Please note that this
notification is intended to inform you of an environmental obstruction and does not necessarily indicate a permanent
malfunction of the Kia Carnival Safe Exit Assist system.
The system is designed to resume normal operation automatically once the obstruction is cleared and your Kia Carnival
is restarted. If the function fails to operate properly after you have removed all external materials and restarted
the vehicle, we recommend having your Kia Carnival inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.
WARNING
-
Even in the absence of a warning message on the instrument cluster, the Safe Exit Assist system may not
function as intended if sensors are partially obscured.
-
The system may experience operational gaps in open terrain where radar targets are scarce, or if the sensors
were blocked by foreign material immediately upon the ignition being turned on.
NOTICE
You can verify detailed system status information via the service messages located in the utility information view of
your Kia Carnival instrument cluster.
CAUTION
For optimal reliability, always ensure the Safe Exit Assist function is turned off before installing or removing a
trailer, cargo carrier, or other rear-mounted attachments. Re-enable the system only after the installation or
removal process is complete.
While designed for your protection, the Safe Exit Warning (SEW) system in your Kia Carnival may occasionally
experience operational limitations or trigger unexpected alerts under the following environmental conditions:
-
Exiting the vehicle in areas with dense, overgrown foliage that may trigger false detections.
-
Exiting the vehicle on wet or flooded road surfaces where radar reflections are distorted.
-
When an approaching vehicle is moving at exceptionally high or very low speeds, which can affect the radar’s
ability to categorize the risk.
NOTICE
For more comprehensive technical details regarding the operational precautions of the rear corner radars on your Kia
Carnival, please refer to the "More Details" section of your owner’s manual.
WARNING
-
The Safe Exit Warning system may not function properly if subjected to intense electromagnetic wave
interference.
-
Be advised that the system may not be fully operational for approximately 3 seconds immediately after starting
your Kia Carnival, as the rear corner radar sensors require time to initialize.
-
If the condition causing the obstruction or fault persists, the Safe Exit Warning will remain unavailable even
after restarting your vehicle until the underlying issue is resolved.
