To ensure maximum protection for all passengers, seat belts must be worn at all times whenever the Kia Carnival is in
motion.
-
A properly positioned shoulder belt should rest midway over your shoulder and across the center of your
collarbone.
-
For safety reasons, never allow children to ride in the front passenger seat. Please refer to the specific
"Child Safety" section of your owner's manual for detailed guidance.
WARNING: Twisted seat belt
Ensure your seat belt is never twisted when worn. A twisted belt may not distribute forces correctly during an
accident and could cut into the body, causing serious injury.
WARNING: Shoulder belt
-
Never wear the shoulder belt tucked under your arm or behind your back. An improperly positioned shoulder belt
cannot provide the necessary protection during a crash.
-
Always use both the shoulder portion and the lap portion of the combined lap/shoulder belt system.
WARNING: Damaged seat belt
Any damage to the webbing or hardware can lead to failure in a crash. For your safety, replace the entire seat belt
assembly if any part shows signs of wear, fraying, or damage, or if the belt has been subjected to a collision, even
if the damage is not visually apparent.
Seat belts should be adjusted to be as firm as possible for protection while maintaining passenger comfort. Wearing
the lap section of the belt across the abdominal area must be strictly avoided; it must remain low on the hips.
Remember that a slack belt significantly reduces the protection provided to the wearer.
Take care to avoid contaminating the webbing with polishes, oils, chemicals, or battery acid. If cleaning is
necessary, use only mild soap and water. The belt must be replaced if the webbing becomes frayed, contaminated, or
shows signs of structural damage.
-
Do not modify or add any components that would interfere with the seat belt's ability to remove slack.
-
When fastening your seat belt, ensure you latch it into the correct buckle for your seat. Latching into a
neighbor's buckle can leave you unsecured.
-
Do not unfasten or repeatedly manipulate the seat belt while the Kia Carnival is being driven, as this can lead
to loss of vehicle control and serious injury.
-
When fastening the belt, ensure it does not pass over hard or fragile objects in your pockets or clothing.
WARNING: Seat belt buckle
Keep the seat belt buckle free of foreign materials such as gum, food crumbs, coins, or liquids. Obstructions can
prevent the seat belt from latching securely, leaving the occupant unprotected.
Seat belt warning

To ensure passenger safety, the Kia Carnival is equipped with an integrated seat belt warning system. This system
utilizes both visual warning lights and audible chimes to alert the driver and front passenger if their seat belts
are not properly fastened.
Driver's seat belt warning
As a safety reminder, every time you press the ENGINE START/STOP button to the ON position, the seat belt warning
light in your Kia Carnival will illuminate for approximately 6 seconds, regardless of whether the belt is buckled. If
the driver’s seat belt remains unfastened during this time, an audible warning chime will sound for the same 6-second
duration.
If you begin driving your Kia Carnival at speeds between approximately 5 mph (9 km/h) and 12 mph (20 km/h) without
fastening your seat belt, the corresponding warning light will appear. The light will automatically turn off once the
vehicle speed drops below 5 mph (9 km/h).
Should you reach or exceed 12 mph (20 km/h) while the seat belt remains unfastened, or if you unbuckle it while
driving at this speed, the warning light will begin to blink, and the warning chime will sound repeatedly for
approximately 100 seconds. If the belt is unfastened while driving, the warning light will appear at speeds between 5
mph and 12 mph, and the full alert sequence (blinking light and audible chime) will trigger again if the speed
increases to 12 mph or higher.
Front passenger's seat belt warning
The front passenger side of the Kia Carnival utilizes a similar alert logic. Upon turning the ENGINE START/STOP
button to ON, the passenger seat belt warning light will illuminate for 6 seconds as a reminder. If the front
passenger begins to move at speeds between 5 mph (9 km/h) and 12 mph (20 km/h) without a fastened belt, the warning
light will activate. The indicator will deactivate once the speed drops below 5 mph (9 km/h).
If the vehicle is driven at 12 mph (20 km/h) or faster without the front passenger seat belt fastened, or if it is
unbuckled while in motion, the warning light will blink and the warning chime will sound for approximately 100
seconds. Consistent with driver-side protocols, if the passenger belt is unfastened during travel, the system will
monitor speed thresholds to provide the appropriate alert level to ensure all Kia Carnival occupants remain
protected.
NOTICE
-
The seat belt warning light will illuminate for approximately 6 seconds whenever the ignition is switched ON,
even if the front passenger seat is completely unoccupied.
-
Please be aware that placing heavy luggage, bags, or other items on the front passenger seat may trigger the
occupant detection sensor, potentially causing the Kia Carnival seat belt warning system to activate.
Seat belt - Driver's 3-point system with emergency locking retractor
Fastening the seat belt

Your Kia Carnival seat belt system is designed to automatically adjust to the proper length. For maximum safety,
manually adjust the lap belt portion so that it sits low and snug across your hips. Under normal driving conditions,
the belt allows for comfortable movement; if you lean forward slowly, the belt will extend with you. However, in the
event of a sudden stop, collision, or if you lean forward too abruptly, the Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) will
instantly lock the belt to secure you in place.
WARNING
Always position the lap belt portion as low as possible and snugly across your hip bones. Wearing the lap belt over
your abdomen is dangerous; in the event of a collision, it may exert excessive pressure on your internal organs and
significantly increase the risk of injury.

For optimal protection and comfort, place the arm closest to the seat belt buckle over the belt, while the other arm
should remain under the belt, as depicted in the illustration. Never wear the shoulder portion of your Kia Carnival
seat belt under the arm closest to the door, as this prevents the belt from functioning correctly during an impact.
NOTICE
If you find that the seat belt cannot be pulled out from the retractor, do not force it. Instead, give the belt a
firm, quick pull to extend it, then release it back into the retractor. Following this reset, you should be able to
pull the belt out smoothly for use in your Kia Carnival.
Releasing the seat belt

Upon release, the Kia Carnival seat belt is designed to automatically retract into the housing. If the belt does not
fully retract, check the webbing to ensure it is not twisted, folded, or obstructed, then attempt the process again.
Keeping the webbing clean and free of twists ensures the longevity and reliability of your Kia Carnival safety
systems.
Adjusting the height of shoulder belt
To ensure maximum comfort and safety for every passenger, the Kia Carnival shoulder belt anchor can be adjusted to
one of four height positions. Customizing this setting is essential for maintaining the correct belt geometry for
your specific body height.

Proper adjustment is critical: the shoulder portion of the Kia Carnival seat belt should lie comfortably across your
chest and midway over your shoulder, near the door pillar. It must never be positioned too close to your neck or
face, as this reduces the effectiveness of the protection during an impact. Avoid positioning the belt across the
neck, as it can cause serious injury in the event of a collision.
To adjust the height of the seat belt anchor in your Kia Carnival:
-
To raise the height: Simply pull the height adjuster upward (1) until it clicks into the
desired position.
-
To lower the height: Push the adjuster downward (3) while simultaneously pressing and holding
the height adjuster button (2).
Once you have selected the appropriate height, release the button to lock the anchor into place. Always try sliding
the height adjuster up and down to verify that it is firmly locked before driving your Kia Carnival.
WARNING: Shoulder belt positioning
Always verify the shoulder belt anchor is securely locked at the appropriate height. Never allow the shoulder belt to
cross over your neck or face. An improperly positioned seat belt cannot provide effective protection and may lead to
severe injuries during an accident.
WARNING: Seat belt replacement
Following any collision, the entire seat belt assembly must be inspected and replaced by an authorized technician,
even if damage to the webbing or hardware is not immediately apparent. Replace any belts that show signs of wear or
are not functioning smoothly to maintain the high safety standards of your Kia Carnival.
For your protection, seat belts must always be securely latched into the correct buckle corresponding to each
individual seat cushion.

buckle) can lead to an insecure connection that will not protect you in the event of an accident.
3-point rear center belt (3rd row center seat)
To fasten the rear center belt
The rear center seat belt in your Kia Carnival is designed as a 3-point restraint system. Follow these steps to
secure it properly:
-
Locate the mini tongue on the belt assembly cover and pull it out of the hole (1), then slowly draw the seat
belt webbing out from the retractor.

-
Extract the primary tongue plate from the holder located on the seat belt webbing (2).

-
Insert the mini tongue (A) into the open end of the anchor connector (C) until you hear a distinct "click,"
confirming that the latch is securely locked. Always verify that the Kia Carnival seat belt webbing is not
twisted.

-
Pull the primary tongue plate (B) and insert it into the open end of the buckle (D) until it clicks, indicating
the latch is locked. Double-check that the belt is free of twists for maximum safety.

When operating the rear center restraint in your Kia Carnival, you must always use the buckle specifically marked
with the "CENTER" label.
The seat belt system automatically adjusts to your size. For optimal protection, manually adjust the lap belt portion
to fit snugly across your hips. Under normal driving conditions, the belt allows for comfortable movement; however,
in the event of a sudden stop or impact, the retractor will instantly lock the belt to secure you in position.
WARNING
When utilizing the rear center seat belt, you must ensure that all tongue plates and buckles are fully locked.
Failure to secure any part of the connection significantly increases the risk of injury during a collision.
To unfasten the rear center belt
-
Press the release button on the main buckle (D) and remove the primary tongue plate (B) from the buckle.

-
To retract the belt, insert a small rigid device, such as the tongue plate, into the web release hole (C).
While holding the release, pull upward on the seat belt webbing (A) to allow it to retract smoothly into the
Kia Carnival ceiling/seat assembly.

-
Finally, insert the primary tongue plate into the belt holder (1) and secure the mini tongue back into the hole
on the belt assembly cover.

Stowing the rear seat belt
To keep the cabin tidy when not in use, the rear seat belt buckles in your Kia Carnival can be conveniently stowed in
the designated pockets located between the rear seatback and the seat cushion.

-
Always route the seat belt webbing through the integrated rear seat belt guides. This helps prevent the belts
from becoming trapped behind or underneath the seats of your Kia Carnival.
-
After inserting the seat belt into the guide, ensure it is snug by pulling the webbing upward.
CAUTION
When preparing to wear the seat belt, pull the tongue out of the seat belt guide slowly and at an appropriate angle
to prevent the guide itself from detaching from the vehicle trim.
Pre-tensioner seat belt

Your Kia Carnival is equipped with advanced pre-tensioner seat belts for the front driver and passenger seats, as
well as the second-row outboard seating positions. This sophisticated system is engineered to enhance occupant
protection by ensuring that the seat belts fit tightly against your body during specific types of collisions.
The primary purpose of the pre-tensioner is to eliminate any slack in the belt webbing, ensuring the occupant is held
securely in the seat. In the event of a severe collision, the pre-tensioner system activates instantly to pull the
seat belt into tighter contact with your body. Furthermore, your Kia Carnival includes load-limiting technology
inside the retractor, which releases a controlled amount of pressure if it senses excessive tension, thereby reducing
the risk of chest injuries.
WARNING
For your maximum safety, always ensure the seat belt webbing is not loose or twisted, and maintain a proper, upright
sitting position on your seat. Slouching or reclining while the vehicle is in motion significantly reduces the
protective capabilities of the restraint system.
NOTICE
Depending on the specific configuration of your Kia Carnival, the pre-tensioners may be programmed to activate not
only in frontal collisions but also in side impacts or rollover events, provided the vehicle is equipped with side or
curtain airbag systems.
The pre-tensioner seat belt system relies on several integrated components, as illustrated below:

-
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) airbag warning light
-
Front retractor pre-tensioner assembly
-
SRS control module
-
2nd-row retractor pre-tensioner assembly
WARNING: Skin irritation
After an accident in which the pre-tensioner seat belts have been activated, you may notice fine dust particles.
Thoroughly wash all exposed skin areas to avoid irritation. Avoid prolonged inhalation of this dust, as it may cause
respiratory discomfort.
NOTICE
-
Both driver and front passenger pre-tensioner systems are synchronized with your Kia Carnival's collision
sensors and may deploy in various impact scenarios.
-
The SRS airbag warning light
will appear for approximately 3 to 6
seconds when the ENGINE START/STOP button is set to ON. This is a normal self-diagnostic check.
-
If this warning light fails to turn off, or if it illuminates while driving, there may be a malfunction in the
pre-tensioner or SRS system. Please have your Kia Carnival inspected by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as
possible to restore full system functionality.
NOTICE
Do not attempt to inspect, service, or repair any part of the pre-tensioner seat belt system yourself. Any
intervention must be performed exclusively by an authorized Kia dealer to ensure the system remains safe and
operational.
WARNING: Hot pre-tensioner
After deployment, the pre-tensioner seat belt assemblies become extremely hot due to the rapid chemical reaction. Do
not touch these components for several minutes following an accident to avoid thermal burns. Please note that
pre-tensioners are designed for single-use only; they must be replaced by an authorized Kia dealer after any
activation event.
