Kia Carnival: Maintenance / Brake fluid

Checking the brake fluid level

Periodically inspect the brake fluid reservoir. The fluid level for your Kia Carnival should always remain between the "MAX" and "MIN" indicators marked on the reservoir side.

Locating the Kia Carnival brake fluid reservoir

  1. Before unscrewing the reservoir cap, clean the entire area thoroughly. Contaminants entering the reservoir can degrade the brake fluid quality and compromise the braking system.

  2. It is normal for the fluid level to drop slightly as your Kia Carnival brake linings wear down over time. However, if the level is excessively low, have the entire brake system inspected immediately by an authorized Kia dealer.

Use only the brake fluid grade specified in your owner's manual. Never mix different types of brake fluid.

If your Kia Carnival requires frequent top-ups of brake fluid, you likely have a leak. Have the system inspected immediately by an authorized Kia dealer; low fluid levels will significantly reduce the performance and safety of your braking system.

Handle brake fluid with extreme caution. It is a hazardous chemical that must not contact your eyes. If accidental contact occurs, flush your eyes immediately with large quantities of fresh water and seek professional medical attention.

Caution icon for paint damage caused by brake fluid CAUTION

Brake fluid will immediately strip the paint from your Kia Carnival body panels—wipe any spills instantly. Never use fluid that has been stored in an open container, as it absorbs moisture from the air, which ruins its boiling point. Furthermore, never introduce mineral-based oils (like engine oil) into the brake system, as this will lead to the total failure of all hydraulic brake seals and components.
