Always exercise extreme care to prevent personal injury and avoid accidental damage to your Kia Carnival whenever you
are performing routine maintenance or inspection procedures.
Should you have any concerns or doubts regarding the proper inspection or servicing of your Kia Carnival, we strongly
recommend having an authorized Kia dealer perform this work. Authorized dealers utilize factory-trained technicians
and genuine Kia components designed specifically for your vehicle to ensure long-term reliability and performance.
Inadequate, incomplete, or insufficient maintenance may result in operational malfunctions, potentially leading to
significant vehicle damage, increased risk of accidents, or serious personal injury.
Owner's responsibility
NOTICE
Maintaining your Kia Carnival in peak condition and retaining comprehensive service records is the primary
responsibility of the vehicle owner.
It is essential that you retain all receipts, invoices, and service documents that demonstrate proper maintenance has
been performed on your Kia Carnival in accordance with the scheduled maintenance charts provided in this manual.
These records are critical, as they establish your compliance with the factory-recommended service intervals, which
is a key requirement for maintaining your vehicle’s warranties.
Detailed information regarding your specific warranty coverage can be found in your Warranty & Consumer
Information manual. Please be aware that any repairs, adjustments, or component replacements required as a
direct result of improper maintenance, neglected service intervals, or lack of required care will not be covered
under your warranty.
For the best results, always have your Kia Carnival maintained and repaired by an authorized Kia dealer. Authorized
service centers employ factory-trained technicians and utilize genuine Kia parts, ensuring your vehicle meets the
manufacturer’s high standards for safety, performance, and long-term reliability.
NOTICE
NHTSA Safety Corrosion Alert
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued a general safety advisory to all vehicle owners
regarding the potential risks associated with underbody corrosion caused by road salts and chemicals. To protect the
structural integrity of your Kia Carnival from initial purchase onwards, please take the following preventative
measures:
-
Wash the undercarriage of your Kia Carnival regularly during the winter season and immediately following any
exposure to road salts, de-icing agents, or other corrosive chemicals.
-
Perform a thorough, deep cleaning of the vehicle undercarriage at the conclusion of every winter season to
remove accumulated residues.
-
Utilize professional service technicians or certified inspection facilities to conduct an annual, comprehensive
inspection for signs of underbody corrosion.
-
Seek an immediate professional inspection if you notice visible signs of corrosion, such as flaking, scaling,
or deep rust. Additionally, contact your service center if you experience changes in vehicle performance, such
as a soft or "spongy" brake pedal feel, unexplained fluid leaks, difficulty in directional control, unusual
suspension noises, or the sound of loose, rattling metal components.
-
The NHTSA further advises that once a vehicle reaches 7 years of age, it is especially critical to continue
these maintenance steps to ensure you remain protected from unsafe driving conditions caused by long-term
corrosion.
Owner maintenance precautions
Performing service tasks improperly or using incomplete procedures can lead to mechanical issues and compromise
vehicle safety. This section provides detailed instructions exclusively for maintenance items that are safe and
straightforward for an owner to perform at home.
As noted previously, many advanced diagnostic and repair procedures require specialized equipment and factory-grade
diagnostic tools; these must be performed exclusively by an authorized Kia dealer.
NOTICE
Please be aware that improper owner-performed maintenance during the vehicle warranty period may negatively impact
your warranty coverage. For comprehensive details regarding your specific rights and obligations, please refer to the
separate Warranty & Consumer Information manual provided with your Kia Carnival. If you have any hesitation
or uncertainty regarding any servicing or maintenance procedure, it is always best to have the work completed by an
authorized Kia dealer.
WARNING: Maintenance work
Never wear jewelry or loose clothing while working under the hood of your Kia Carnival, especially if the engine is
running or cooling fans are active. Items such as rings, bracelets, watches, necklaces, neckties, and scarves can
easily become entangled in rotating engine components, leading to severe injury. If you absolutely must have the
engine running while working under the hood, ensure all such items are removed and keep loose clothing securely
fastened away from moving parts.
WARNING: Touching metal parts
Do not touch any hot metal engine components, including heat shields, exhaust manifolds, or strut bars, while the Kia
Carnival is operating or has recently been running. These surfaces reach extremely high temperatures and can cause
serious thermal burns. Always turn the vehicle off and allow sufficient time for all engine components to cool down
to a safe ambient temperature before attempting any maintenance work.
Some Kia Carnival models include a secondary 12V Parking lithium battery. This specialized battery is designed to
provide a stable, dedicated power supply for critical functions such as over-the-air (OTA) updates, air-purification
(after-blow) systems, and climate control (CCS) operations while the vehicle is parked, ensuring your primary battery
remains charged for engine starting.
12V Lithium Auxiliary Battery care
The secondary 12V lithium auxiliary battery in your Kia Carnival is designed for maximum efficiency. In the event
this battery detects any operational anomalies—such as an internal high-temperature reading or a potential
overcharging state—a diagnostic warning message will appear directly on your vehicle's instrument cluster.
Furthermore, if you are an active subscriber to the Kia Connect service, a detailed malfunction alert notification
will be sent automatically to your registered mobile phone number.
Please note that these proactive telematics notifications are an exclusive benefit for customers who maintain an
active Kia Connect subscription.
WARNING
If you observe a warning message displayed on your instrument cluster or receive a mobile notification indicating a
battery malfunction, you should have the Kia Carnival electrical system inspected immediately by an authorized Kia
dealer to prevent potential power loss or further damage to the auxiliary system.
Certain components within your Kia Carnival, specifically those containing perchlorate materials—such as airbag
inflators, seatbelt pre-tensioners, and keyless remote entry batteries—may require specialized handling. For more
comprehensive information regarding these materials, please visit https://dtsc.ca.gov/perchlorate.
Notice to California Vehicle Dismantlers: All materials containing perchlorate found in your Kia
Carnival, including airbag inflators, seatbelt pre-tensioners, and remote battery units, must be handled,
transported, and disposed of in strict accordance with the California Code of Regulations, Title 22, Section
67384.10(a).
