This section is designed to guide you through proper vehicle loading, ensuring your Kia Carnival operates within its
designed performance capabilities. Loading your vehicle correctly ensures optimal fuel economy, handling, and safety.
Before loading, familiarize yourself with these essential weight definitions found in your vehicle's specifications
and on the certification label:
Base curb weight
This is the weight of the Kia Carnival as manufactured, including a full tank of fuel and all standard equipment. It
does not account for passengers, cargo, or any dealer-installed optional accessories.
Vehicle curb weight
This is the actual weight of your specific Kia Carnival at the time of delivery, including all standard factory
equipment plus any additional aftermarket accessories or modifications added subsequently.
Cargo weight
Cargo weight represents the total sum of all weight added to the Base Curb Weight. This includes not only your
physical luggage and cargo but also any optional equipment or accessories installed on your Kia Carnival after it
left the factory.
GAW (Gross axle weight)
The Gross Axle Weight (GAW) is the actual total weight currently being exerted on each individual axle—both front and
rear—of your Kia Carnival. This figure is calculated by combining the vehicle's current curb weight with the total
payload it is carrying at that moment.
GAWR (Gross axle weight rating)
The Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) defines the absolute maximum weight that a single axle (front or rear) is
structurally engineered to support. These specific capacity figures are clearly displayed on the certification label
of your Kia Carnival. You must ensure that the total load on each axle never exceeds its respective GAWR to maintain
safe operation.
GVW (Gross vehicle weight)
The Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) is the current actual weight of your Kia Carnival. It is calculated by adding the Base
Curb Weight to the total weight of all cargo, luggage, and all vehicle occupants currently on board.
GVWR (Gross vehicle weight rating)
The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) is the manufacturer-specified maximum allowable weight of your fully loaded
Kia Carnival. This total includes the vehicle itself, all optional factory-installed equipment, passengers, and
cargo. You can find the specific GVWR for your vehicle on the certification label located on the driver’s or front
passenger’s door sill.

WARNING
Vehicle weight safety: The GAWR and GVWR ratings for your Kia Carnival are critical safety
specifications found on the certification label attached to the door pillar. Consistently exceeding these ratings can
cause significant mechanical damage or lead to a dangerous loss of vehicle control. To ensure safety, calculate your
total load by estimating the weight of all items and passengers before loading them into your Kia Carnival. Never
push your vehicle beyond its specified load limits.
