Kia Carnival: Driver assistance guide / Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA)

Kia Carnival (KA4) 2022-2026 Owner's Manual / Driver assistance guide / Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA)

The Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) system in your Kia Carnival is designed to monitor and detect vehicles approaching within your blind spot zones. If a potential collision risk is identified, the system provides both visual and audible alerts to warn you. Furthermore, if you attempt to change lanes while an object is detected, the Kia Carnival BCA system may provide active steering or braking assistance to help prevent a collision.

The advanced BCA technology in the Kia Carnival helps detect and inform the driver of vehicles approaching at high speeds from the rear-side blind spots. It also monitors for vehicles steadily traveling within your immediate blind spot area.

When you are reversing or exiting a parallel parking space, the Kia Carnival BCA system continuously scans for cross-traffic. If the system determines there is a risk of collision with an approaching vehicle, it can proactively apply the brakes to help avoid or mitigate the impact.

  • The operational detection range may fluctuate based on your Kia Carnival's current driving speed. Be aware that the BCA system might not issue a warning when passing other vehicles at significantly high relative speeds, even if they are within the blind spot area.

  • The timing and sensitivity of warning alerts may also vary depending on the velocity of the approaching vehicle.

  • Never attempt to disassemble, modify, or cause impact damage to the radar sensor assembly.

  • If the rear bumper or the area near the radar sensors has been impacted, the Kia Carnival BCA system may not function correctly, even if no specific warning message appears on the cluster. We strongly recommend having the system inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.

  • Any repair or replacement of these sensors must be performed by authorized service personnel.

  • The rear bumpers on your Kia Carnival are engineered specifically to work with the rear corner radar sensors. Applying aftermarket paint, stickers, or films to the bumper area can obstruct radar waves and degrade system performance. Always use Kia Genuine Parts to ensure the quality and safety of your driver assistance systems.

  • Do not install license plate frames, bumper guards, or metallic films near the radar sensors, as these can cause significant interference.

  • The BCA system’s reliability may be compromised if the bumper has been improperly repaired or painted after damage.

  • Installing a trailer, hitch-mounted carrier, or other large accessories may obstruct the rear corner radar, which can adversely affect or disable the Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist function in your Kia Carnival.
