Kia Carnival: Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) / Tire replacement with TPMS

If you experience a flat tire while driving your Kia Carnival, the Low Tire Pressure telltale will immediately illuminate on your dashboard. It is essential to have the flat tire repaired by an authorized Kia dealer as soon as possible, or alternatively, replace the compromised tire with your vehicle's spare tire to continue your journey.

Puncture Repair Agents:

Never utilize a puncture-repairing sealant or liquid agent that has not been explicitly approved by Kia. Using non-approved sealants on your Kia Carnival can cause permanent, irreparable damage to the sensitive tire pressure sensor located inside the wheel assembly.

Every wheel on your Kia Carnival is engineered with a specialized tire pressure sensor mounted securely inside the tire, directly behind the valve stem. Because of this integration, you must ensure that all replacement wheels are fully compatible with your TPMS requirements. For your safety and to ensure the longevity of your sensors, always have your tires serviced, mounted, or replaced by an authorized Kia dealer.

Please be aware that if you replace a low-pressure tire with the spare tire, the Low Tire Pressure telltale will remain illuminated on your Kia Carnival display until the original tire is properly repaired and re-mounted on the vehicle.

Following the installation of a spare tire, you may notice that the TPMS malfunction indicator activates after driving for a few minutes. This occurs because the TPMS sensor on the spare wheel has not yet been registered or activated by the vehicle's electronic control unit.

Once the original tire is repaired, inflated to the manufacturer's recommended pressure, and re-installed on your Kia Carnival—or if the TPMS sensor on the spare wheel is formally initialized by a professional workshop—the TPMS malfunction indicator and the Low Tire Pressure telltale will automatically turn off after a few minutes of continuous driving.

If the warning indicators fail to extinguish after a short driving session, please visit an authorized Kia dealer for a diagnostic check.

Furthermore, when a standard road tire is replaced with a spare, the TPMS sensor on the new spare wheel must be initiated, and the sensor on the original wheel must be deactivated. If the TPMS sensor from the original wheel remains active while stored in the tire carrier, it may cause signal interference, leading to the malfunction of the Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Always ensure that any tire equipped with a TPMS sensor is professionally serviced or replaced by an authorized Kia dealer to maintain the integrity of your Kia Carnival safety systems.

It is important to remember that you often cannot accurately determine if a tire is under-inflated simply by performing a visual inspection. To ensure your Kia Carnival is safe to drive, always use a high-quality, calibrated tire pressure gauge to measure the inflation level of each tire. Please be aware that tire pressure readings fluctuate based on temperature; a tire that has been warmed by driving will display a higher pressure reading than a "cold" tire. For accurate results, a tire is considered cold only after the Kia Carnival has been stationary for at least three hours or has been driven for less than one mile (1.6 km) within that three-hour timeframe.

Always allow the tires to cool down completely before measuring their pressure. It is crucial to ensure the tires are at an ambient temperature before inflating them to the pressure levels recommended by the manufacturer. Remember, a "cold tire" is defined as a tire on a vehicle that has been parked for 3 hours or driven for less than 1 mile (1.6 km) during that period.

Furthermore, never use aftermarket liquid tire sealant if your Kia Carnival is equipped with a TPMS. The chemicals contained in these sealants can coat the internal sensors, leading to permanent damage to the tire pressure monitoring system.

  • While the TPMS is a vital safety tool, it cannot instantly alert you to severe and sudden tire damage caused by external road hazards, such as sharp nails, glass, or large pieces of road debris. Always remain observant of your vehicle's behavior.

  • If you experience any sense of vehicle instability, vibration, or pulling while driving your Kia Carnival, remain calm. Immediately take your foot off the accelerator, apply the brakes gradually and with light force, and steer the vehicle slowly to a safe location off the roadway.

Notice regarding the importance of maintaining Kia Carnival TPMS sensor integrity NOTICE

Protecting your TPMS:

Tampering with, modifying, or intentionally disabling any components of the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) in your Kia Carnival is strictly discouraged. Such actions may interfere with the system's ability to provide critical warnings regarding low tire pressure or hardware malfunctions. Furthermore, unauthorized modifications or attempts to disable the Tire Pressure Monitoring System components may void the manufacturer’s warranty coverage for that portion of your Kia Carnival.
