The Kia Carnival offers an expansive atmosphere with its dual sunroof system. You can easily control
the sliding and tilting functions using the dedicated switches conveniently integrated into the overhead console.
Front switch
Rear switch
For your convenience, the sunroof operates when the ENGINE START/STOP button is in the ON or START position.
Additionally, the system remains active for approximately 3 minutes after shifting the vehicle to the ACC or OFF
position, provided no doors are opened during that interval.
WARNING
-
Always adjust the sunroof or sunshade while the Kia Carnival is safely parked. Operating these
controls while driving can distract you, potentially leading to a loss of vehicle control.
-
Never leave the vehicle with the engine running and children inside. Unsupervised children can inadvertently
operate the sunroof, leading to serious pinching injuries.
-
Never sit on the roof or reach through an open sunroof while the vehicle is in motion.
NOTICE
To prevent structural damage, do not attempt to open the sunroof if roof racks, bars, or heavy luggage are installed
on the roof of your Kia Carnival.
NOTICE
When the rear window lock button is engaged on the driver’s door, the rear sunroof switch is automatically disabled
for child safety. If passengers need to adjust the rear sunroof while this lock is active, the driver must operate it
using the front master sunroof switches.
Sunshade (Front/Rear)
The manual sunshades are designed to provide shade and reduce cabin heat by blocking direct sunlight through the
glass panels of your Kia Carnival.
The sunshades are operated manually by hand. Please note that while the sunshade retracts automatically when the
glass panel is opened, you must manually slide the shade closed when the glass is returned to the closed position.
NOTICE
Only the sunshade cannot be closed independently while the sunroof glass is in the fully open position. You must
first close the glass partially or fully to manually adjust the sunshade.
NOTICE
To avoid damaging the internal tracks or fabric, operate the sunshades smoothly and avoid applying excessive vertical
or lateral force.
Tilt open/close (Front)
-
Tilt open: Push the front of the sunroof switch upward.
-
Tilt close: Push the sunroof switch forward when the glass is tilted open.
The sunroof glass will continue to move as long as you hold the switch. This precision control allows you to vent the
Kia Carnival cabin effectively while driving at moderate speeds.
Slide open/close (Front/Rear)
The Kia Carnival features a sophisticated dual-sunroof system, allowing you to independently control
the front and rear glass panels for enhanced ventilation and cabin ambiance.

-
Opening: Push the sunroof switch rearward; the sunshade will retract automatically, followed
by the sliding of the sunroof glass.
-
Closing: Push the switch forward to close only the sunroof glass. Note that the sunshade must
be closed manually.
-
Manual Control (First Detent): Pushing the switch to the first detent position moves the glass
only while you hold the switch, allowing for precise positioning.
-
Auto-Slide Feature (Second Detent): Pushing the switch to the second detent position activates
the automatic slide. To halt movement at any point, simply tap the switch in any direction.
-
Rear Sunroof Logic: For the rear seat sunroof, the "Auto Slide" feature stops at a preset
intermediate position to optimize airflow. To fully open the rear glass, press and hold the switch rearward a
second time.
NOTICE
To minimize wind buffeting and cabin noise while driving your Kia Carnival, we recommend positioning
the sunroof glass at the first detent (intermediate position) rather than the fully open setting when at highway
speeds.
Automatic reversal
The Kia Carnival is equipped with an "Auto-Reverse" safety feature. If the system detects resistance
or an obstacle while the glass is closing automatically, it will immediately halt and reverse direction. Please be
aware that this sensor may not detect extremely thin or soft objects, so always visually verify the path is clear.
WARNING
-
Before activation, always ensure that all passengers—especially children—have their heads, hands, and arms
safely inside the Kia Carnival.
-
Never test the automatic reversal system by placing body parts in the path of the closing glass; doing so poses
a significant risk of injury.
NOTICE
-
Avoid holding the switch once the sunroof reaches the fully open or closed position to prevent strain on the
electric motor.
-
Frequent, continuous operation of the sunroof system may cause the motor to overheat and enter a temporary
protective mode.
-
Maintenance: Keep the sunroof rails free of dust and debris using a clean cloth. Accumulated
grit can cause abnormal noises and increase friction.
-
Winter Use: Do not attempt to open the sunroof if it is frozen shut or covered in snow/ice.
Forceful operation can shatter the glass or damage the drive mechanism.
-
Avoid opening the sunroof immediately after rain or a car wash to prevent water from dripping into the
Kia Carnival interior.
WARNING
Never extend your head, arms, or any objects outside the Kia Carnival sunroof while the vehicle is
in motion. Sudden stops or evasive maneuvers could lead to severe impact or accidental injury.
Resetting the sunroof
Over time, or following specific maintenance events, the sunroof system in your Kia Carnival may
lose its calibrated position. Performing a system reset ensures that the one-touch auto-open/close features operate
with precision and safety.

A reset procedure is typically required in the following scenarios:
-
Following a 12-volt battery disconnection or complete discharge.
-
After a replacement of the sunroof system fuse.
-
If the one-touch AUTO OPEN/CLOSE function shows signs of lag, stuttering, or failure to engage.
Sunroof resetting procedure:
-
For the best results, perform the reset with the Kia Carnival engine running. Ensure the
vehicle is parked in P (Park).
-
Verify that the sunroof glass is in the fully closed position. If it is currently open, push and hold the
switch forward until the glass reaches the completely closed position.
-
Release the switch once the glass is firmly shut.
-
Push the switch forward again until the sunroof glass moves slightly. Release the switch immediately.
-
Finally, push and hold the sunroof switch forward until the glass performs a full sliding open-and-close cycle.
Important: Do not release the switch until the full cycle is complete. If you release it
prematurely, you must restart the process from Step 2.
NOTICE
Failure to successfully complete the reset after battery power loss may lead to inconsistent sunroof operation or
persistent electronic faults. If the system fails to calibrate after multiple attempts, please visit an authorized
service center.
Sunroof open warning
To prevent accidental vehicle interior exposure, your Kia Carnival is equipped with a smart alert
system. If you turn off the engine while the sunroof remains open, a warning chime will sound, and a notification
will appear on the instrument cluster LCD display.
Always double-check that the sunroof is sealed tightly before exiting the vehicle to protect your Kia
Carnival cabin.
CAUTION
Ensure the sunroof is fully closed whenever your vehicle is parked. Leaving the sunroof open invites damage from rain
or snow and increases the risk of unauthorized access or theft.
