A: Check Driver Assistance system
If the Highway Driving Assist (HDA) system in your Kia Carnival experiences a functional error, a warning message
will be triggered on your display, and the Master warning light (
) will illuminate on the instrument cluster. Should you encounter
this alert, please schedule an inspection of your Kia Carnival at an authorized Kia dealer to ensure all safety
systems are functioning correctly.
WARNING
-
As the operator, you remain solely responsible for the safe control and navigation of your Kia Carnival at all
times.
-
Always maintain a firm grip on the steering wheel while the vehicle is in motion, even when driver assistance
systems are engaged.
-
Remember that Highway Driving Assist is a supplemental convenience feature intended to assist your driving; it
is not a fully autonomous driving system. You must remain vigilant, constantly monitor road conditions, and
take immediate manual action to ensure safe travel.
-
Always keep your eyes on the road. You are responsible for adhering to all local traffic laws and regulations.
Kia is not liable for any traffic violations, fines, or accidents resulting from driver negligence or misuse of
the system.
-
Be aware that Highway Driving Assist may not recognize every complex traffic scenario. Due to sensor
limitations, the system may fail to detect potential collision risks, including obstacles such as other
vehicles, motorcyclists, cyclists, pedestrians, or stationary structures like guardrails and tollgates. Always
anticipate and react to your surroundings.
-
Highway Driving Assist will automatically deactivate in the following situations:
-
If the system detects that the driver has removed their hands from the steering wheel for an extended
period after repeated warnings.
-
If the vehicle enters a road type or zone not supported by the HDA system mapping data.
-
When the driver performs a significant manual steering override or applies excessive force to the
steering wheel.
-
If the Smart Cruise Control system is canceled or encounters a fault.
-
If the vehicle’s speed is modified in a way that exceeds the system's operational threshold.
-
Highway Driving Assist (HDA) is not designed to operate on roads outside of controlled-access highways,
including rest areas, complex intersections, junctions, or local surface streets.
-
The system relies on accurate map data; therefore, HDA may not function correctly if the infotainment
navigation system is undergoing an update, restarting, or encountering a data initialization error.
Please be aware that Highway Driving Assist may inadvertently engage or disengage based on fluctuating road
conditions, real-time navigation map information, and external environmental factors surrounding your Kia
Carnival.
The Lane Following Assist (LFA) component of the HDA suite may be temporarily disabled if the front-view camera
faces visibility challenges—such as extreme weather or glare—or if a "hands-off" warning has been triggered,
requiring immediate driver intervention.
In high-noise environments, such as driving with windows open or in heavy construction zones, the audible warning
chimes from the Kia Carnival Highway Driving Assist system may be difficult to hear; remain visually attentive to
the instrument cluster alerts.
When navigating curves at higher speeds, the vehicle may experience limitations in steering torque; this could
result in the vehicle drifting toward one side of the lane or, in extreme cases, departing from the lane entirely.
Always be prepared to provide corrective steering input.
For your safety and the stability of your towing setup, you must turn off Highway Driving Assist whenever you are
towing a trailer, boat, or other vehicle behind your Kia Carnival.
The timing of the "hands-off" warning can vary based on your specific grip on the steering wheel, road surface
texture, and driving dynamics. Always keep both hands on the steering wheel to ensure you maintain full control of
your Kia Carnival at all times.
For your own safety and to fully understand the operational parameters of your vehicle, please thoroughly read the
owner's manual before attempting to use the Highway Driving Assist feature.
Highway Driving Assist will not be available immediately upon vehicle startup, as the detecting sensors and
navigation system require a brief initialization period before they can reliably support driving operations.
NOTICE
You can verify system status, check for active alerts, or view detailed diagnostics by accessing the "Service"
message section within the utility information view of your Kia Carnival instrument cluster display window.
The Highway Driving Assist (HDA) and Highway Lane Change Assist systems in your Kia Carnival are advanced
driver-assistance features; however, they may not operate correctly or may deactivate under specific environmental or
operational circumstances, including but not limited to the following:
-
The navigation map data is outdated, leading to discrepancies between the digital road network and the actual
physical road infrastructure.
-
There is a mismatch between map information and real-world conditions caused by temporary GPS errors or
corrupted map data in the Kia Carnival navigation system.
-
The infotainment system's processor is overloaded due to high-demand concurrent tasks, such as complex route
re-calculations, high-definition video playback, or extensive voice recognition processing.
-
GPS signal reception is obstructed or lost, such as when driving through tunnels, dense urban "canyons," or
heavily wooded areas.
-
You veer significantly off the planned navigation route, manually reset the destination, or cancel the active
guidance entirely, preventing the Kia Carnival from maintaining its HDA operational state.
-
The vehicle enters a service station, rest stop, or private parking area, where HDA operational support is not
provided.
-
You are actively using smartphone projection features like Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, which may share
system resources.
-
The navigation system cannot accurately pinpoint your Kia Carnival current position relative to the road, such
as when driving on elevated overpasses situated directly above general-purpose parallel roads.
-
The vehicle's sensors fail to consistently recognize single white dashed lane markings or unclear road boundary
markers.
-
Road lanes are temporarily restricted or redirected due to construction or emergency zones.
-
The road lacks essential physical separation structures, such as a concrete median or guardrail, in the center
of the thoroughfare.
-
The lane you intend to shift into is designated as a specialized bus-only lane or a variable-direction lane.
-
You have a trailer, cargo carrier, or other external equipment attached to your Kia Carnival, which alters the
vehicle's dynamics and sensor perception.
NOTICE
For in-depth information regarding the calibration, care, and specific limitations of the front-view camera, front
radar, and corner radar sensors on your Kia Carnival, please refer to the "More Details" section of your owner's
manual.
