Kia Carnival: Surround View Monitor (SVM) (if equipped) / Surround View Monitor malfunction and limitations

Surround View Monitor malfunction

If the Surround View Monitor experiences a system error, you may notice the screen displaying an unusual green, blue, or black tint.

If the Surround View Monitor in your Kia Carnival is not operating correctly, displays persistent screen flickering, or fails to show a clear camera feed, we recommend having your vehicle inspected promptly by an authorized Kia dealer to ensure your parking safety systems are fully restored.

Limitations of Surround View Monitor

  • During cold weather conditions or when the Kia Carnival is parked in an indoor garage, localized exhaust fumes may temporarily accumulate near the cameras, causing the monitor image to appear blurred or obstructed.

  • The screen may display abnormal imagery or an warning icon may appear at the top-left corner of the display if any of the following conditions occur while the Kia Carnival is in operation:

    • The liftgate is currently opened.

    • Either the driver’s door or the front passenger’s door is open.

    • The outside rear-view mirror has been folded inward.

Display warnings and status indicators on the Kia Carnival Surround View Monitor WARNING

  • ALWAYS conduct a physical check around your Kia Carnival to ensure there are no pedestrians, objects, or obstacles before moving the vehicle. Relying solely on the screen can be deceptive, as the visual representation may differ from the actual physical location of objects.

  • The perceived distance to objects on the screen may not match the actual distance. The Kia Carnival system calculates this view by calibrating wide-angle camera footage. Additionally, if the vehicle is heavily loaded and tilted, the rear parking guidelines may become inaccurate. Always prioritize visual verification of your surroundings for maximum safety.

  • The Surround View Monitor is optimized for use on flat, level surfaces. If you are maneuvering on uneven terrain, such as steep curbs, speed bumps, or inclines, the rendered image may appear distorted or misaligned.

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the camera lenses at all times. Dirt, mud, or debris can significantly degrade camera performance, causing the Surround View Monitor to function improperly. When cleaning the lenses, avoid using harsh chemical solvents, such as high-alkaline detergents, gasoline, or acetone, as these can permanently damage the lens coating of your Kia Carnival cameras.

Camera lens maintenance and cleaning instructions for Kia Carnival NOTICE

The Surround View Monitor relies on external cameras mounted on the body of your Kia Carnival to stitch together a comprehensive view. Depending on ambient lighting and surroundings, the image may occasionally look unnatural. The system continuously refines its output through a self-calibration process that occurs during your daily driving.
