The power sliding door system in your Kia Carnival is designed for convenience and safety. When the
engine is running, the power sliding doors will operate only when the gear selector is in the P (Park) position. If
the engine is turned off, the doors can be operated regardless of the gear position. For safety, the system limits
opening speed; the sliding doors can only be opened when the Kia Carnival vehicle speed is below 1.8
mph (3 km/h). As a standard safety practice, always ensure the transmission is in P (Park) before operating any door
or the liftgate.
To alert passengers and prevent accidental injuries, a chime will sound throughout the entire duration of the power
sliding door movement.
WARNING
Please adhere to the following precautions to ensure the safe operation of your Kia Carnival power
sliding doors and to avoid personal injury or structural damage:
-
Ensure that all passengers are fully seated and clear of the door opening before initiating the closing
sequence.
-
Verify that no limbs, clothing, or personal objects are obstructing the door path before operating the power
sliding door.
-
Never attempt to open the sliding doors while the Kia Carnival is in motion, as this poses a
severe risk of passengers or cargo falling from the vehicle.
-
Never leave children or pets unattended inside the vehicle, as they may inadvertently activate the power
sliding door switches.
-
Always confirm that the sliding doors are completely closed and latched before driving. If the door is not
fully engaged, it could unexpectedly open during transit.
-
Avoid abrupt braking maneuvers while driving with a sliding door open, as this could cause the door to slam
shut or sustain damage.
-
Wait for the power sliding door to come to a complete stop in the fully open position before allowing
passengers to enter or exit, or before loading cargo.
-
If parked on an incline, ensure the door has reached its fully opened and locked position. A door that is not
fully locked could close rapidly due to gravity, causing injury.
NOTICE
-
Avoid opening or closing the power sliding door manually, as this can strain and damage the internal motor
mechanism. In the event of a battery discharge or emergency, if manual operation is unavoidable, use minimal
force.
-
Before opening the fuel filler door, ensure the left-side sliding door is fully closed. Opening the fuel door
while the power sliding door is in motion may result in significant damage to both components of your
Kia Carnival.
-
Do not exert excessive force on the door handle or the door panel itself, as this may compromise the electronic
actuators.
-
Be mindful of the door hinges; do not step on them, nor place heavy objects on the hinge assembly when the door
is open to prevent operational failure.
NOTICE
As a built-in safety feature of the Kia Carnival, the left-side sliding door is electronically
inhibited from opening if the fuel filler door is currently open.
-
When the Power Sliding Door OFF button is inactive (LED indicator is OFF), the power-assisted sliding doors are
enabled and will respond to handle, button, or remote commands.
-
When the button is active (LED indicator is ON), the power sliding door system is disabled. In this mode, the
doors must be operated manually by pulling the door handles.
-
For your convenience, this system automatically deactivates the button light 10 minutes after the engine is
turned off or 5 seconds after the vehicle's anti-theft alarm system is armed.
WARNING
Always deactivate the power sliding door system by turning the OFF button ON when children are occupying the rear
seats. This prevents children from accidentally activating the doors while the Kia Carnival is stationary or in
motion, which could lead to unintended door operation and potential injury.
CAUTION
Before entering an automatic car wash, ensure the power sliding door system is deactivated. If the system remains
active, the external door handles may be triggered by the car wash machinery, causing the doors to open unexpectedly
and suffer damage.
