[A]: Check Driver Assistance system
Should the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) system in your Kia Carnival fail to function
correctly, a persistent warning message will be displayed on the instrument cluster for several seconds.
Simultaneously, the Master warning light (
) will illuminate to indicate a
system fault.
In such instances, we recommend visiting an authorized Kia dealer for a professional diagnostic and repair.

[A]: Check side-view mirror warning light
If the warning light integrated into the outside rear-view mirror of your Kia Carnival is not operating as expected,
a diagnostic warning message will appear on the instrument cluster. The Master warning light (
) will also activate.
This component is essential for your safety; therefore, please have this function inspected promptly by an authorized
Kia dealer.

[A]: Driver Assistance system limited. Radar blocked.
The RCCA system relies on radar sensors located behind the rear bumper of your Kia Carnival. If these areas are
obstructed by foreign materials—such as heavy mud, snow, ice, or if you have a trailer or cargo carrier attached—the
detection capability may be severely reduced. In such conditions, the system will temporarily limit or fully disable
the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist to prevent false interventions.
If this occurs, a warning message will appear on your Kia Carnival instrument cluster.
Once you have cleaned the sensors or removed the trailer or carrier, the system should return to normal operation. If
the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist fails to recover its functionality after the obstructions are
cleared, please consult an authorized Kia dealer for a professional inspection.
WARNING
-
Please be aware that the system may occasionally fail to operate properly even if an explicit warning message
is not displayed on your Kia Carnival dashboard.
-
The Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may show reduced functionality in vast, open environments
where there are no surrounding objects or vehicles to provide a reference point for sensor calibration
immediately after starting your Kia Carnival.
CAUTION
To avoid unnecessary warnings and ensure system integrity, always manually turn off the Rear Cross-Traffic
Collision-Avoidance Assist before you begin installing or removing a trailer, cargo carrier, or any other
rear-mounted attachment to your Kia Carnival. Remember to re-enable the feature once the process is complete.
The Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) system in your Kia Carnival is a sophisticated safety tool,
but its performance may be compromised, or it may trigger unexpectedly, under the following specific environmental
and operational circumstances:
-
Exiting or reversing from areas with dense, overgrown foliage or tall grass that may obstruct radar detection.
-
Operating the Kia Carnival in locations where road surfaces are flooded or covered in standing water, which can
create signal interference.
-
When an approaching vehicle is moving at an unusually fast or significantly slow speed, which may fall outside
the system's calibrated detection parameters.
Braking control functionality may be inhibited, requiring heightened driver vigilance, in the following scenarios:
-
Driving on rough, uneven terrain or through deep potholes where the Kia Carnival experiences severe vibrations
that could interfere with sensor precision.
-
Navigating surfaces with low friction coefficients, such as roads covered in snow, heavy rain, or black ice.
-
When tire pressure is below recommended levels or if a tire is significantly damaged, which impacts the
vehicle's stability control feedback loop.
-
While the Remote Smart Parking Assist (if equipped) is actively managing vehicle movement.
NOTICE
For a comprehensive understanding of the operational boundaries of the rear corner radar, please refer to the "More
Details" section of your Kia Carnival owner's manual.
WARNING
-
Driving near a vehicle or structure

[A]: Structure
The Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may have limited visibility when maneuvering near large
vehicles or physical structures. In these tight environments, the system might fail to detect a vehicle
approaching from the left or right, resulting in a lack of warning or braking intervention. Always maintain
manual control and visually check your surroundings while backing up your Kia Carnival.
-
When the vehicle is in a complex parking environment

The RCCA system may occasionally detect non-threatening vehicles, such as those parking or pulling out in
adjacent spots, or vehicles making complex turns near your Kia Carnival. This may lead to unnecessary warnings
or brake intervention. Always remain focused on your environment while backing up.
-
When the vehicle is parked diagonally

[A]: Vehicle
The Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may be limited when you are reversing out of a diagonal
parking space. The radar angle might not effectively detect vehicles approaching from the left or right,
potentially causing the system to fail in providing necessary warnings or braking assistance. Always supplement
the system's input with your own visual check of the Kia Carnival surroundings.
Always verify the area surrounding your vehicle personally while backing up to ensure maximum safety.
When the vehicle is on or near a slope

The Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist functionality may be significantly restricted when your Kia
Carnival is positioned on an uphill or downhill slope, or even when operating in close proximity to one. Due to
the change in vehicle pitch, the radar may fail to detect vehicles approaching from the left or right, leading to
a potential lack of warning or automated braking intervention. Always perform a visual check of your surroundings
while reversing your Kia Carnival.
Pulling into a parking space where there is a structure

[A]: Structure, [B]: Wall
When you are reversing your Kia Carnival into a parking space that features a wall or physical structure at the
rear or side, the system might misinterpret vehicles passing by in front of you as a collision threat. This can
result in unnecessary driver alerts and unrequested brake intervention. Always prioritize your own visual
confirmation of the path while backing up.
When the vehicle is parked rearward

In scenarios where you are reversing your Kia Carnival into a parking space, the system may accidentally detect
passing vehicles behind you. This may cause the system to issue false warnings or engage the brakes unnecessarily.
Stay alert and always check your surroundings while reversing.
WARNING
-
If you are currently towing a trailer or another vehicle with your Kia Carnival, you must manually turn off the
Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist to maintain safety and prevent system errors.
-
The Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist may experience degraded performance or intermittent operation
if it is subjected to strong electromagnetic wave interference.
-
Please note that the system requires a brief initialization period; it may not be ready to operate for
approximately 3 seconds after you start your Kia Carnival, while the rear corner radar sensors calibrate.
-
If you restart your Kia Carnival while the sensors are blocked or experiencing a malfunction, the system will
retain its last state, which may mean the Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist will not function as
expected. Always check your cluster for status updates.
Operation is strictly subject to the following two conditions:
-
This device must not cause any harmful interference.
-
This device must accept any interference received, including any interference that could potentially lead to
undesired operation of the system.
