Safety warning for Kia Carnival power liftgate path clearance WARNING

Before activating the power liftgate via the interior button or smart key, always perform a visual check to ensure no people or objects are in the liftgate’s operating path. Failure to do so may result in serious injury or damage to your Kia Carnival and surrounding property. Note that if the smart key moves outside the operational range (approximately 10 meters/33 feet) during movement, the operation will halt automatically, and a warning chime will sound for 5 seconds.

When the liftgate is closed, press and hold the button for 1 second to initiate opening. If the liftgate is currently opening, pressing the button acts as a pause command. To close an open liftgate, press and hold the button; if you release it prematurely, the liftgate will stop and the system will emit a 5-second warning chime to indicate the interruption.

For security reasons, this feature is only available when the vehicle’s ignition is turned off.

Automatic reverse

The Kia Carnival is equipped with a sophisticated Automatic Reverse feature designed to protect passengers and cargo. If the power liftgate encounters resistance during its travel, the system will immediately stop or reverse its direction to clear the obstruction. However, please note that the effectiveness of this safety feature can be limited by certain conditions:

  • Sensitivity Limits: The system may not detect soft or thin objects, nor will it be able to register resistance if the liftgate is nearly closed (within the final latching phase).

  • External Factors: If the vehicle is subjected to strong impacts or vibrations, the sensors may falsely trigger the reverse function even if no physical obstruction is present.
