A: Check Driver Assistance system.
If the Safe Exit Assist system in your Kia Carnival is not functioning correctly, a warning message will appear on
the instrument cluster for several seconds, and the Master warning light (
) will illuminate. Should a persistent malfunction occur, a warning
message will remain on the instrument cluster display, and the Master warning light (
) will stay on. If your Kia Carnival system does not work as
expected, we recommend having the Safe Exit Assist inspected by an authorized Kia dealer immediately to ensure
passenger safety.
A: Check side-view mirror warning light
When the warning indicator integrated into the outside rear-view mirror fails to operate, a warning message will be
triggered on the Kia Carnival instrument cluster for several seconds, accompanied by the Master warning light (
). Please have the Safe Exit Assist system fully
inspected by an authorized Kia dealer to restore all safety features.
If the rear bumper area around the Kia Carnival rear corner radar or sensors becomes covered with foreign
material—such as heavy snow, mud, road grime, or if a trailer or external luggage carrier is installed—the system's
detection performance may be reduced. In these circumstances, the Safe Exit Assist function may be temporarily
limited or automatically disabled for your protection.
A: Driver Assistance system limited. Radar blocked.
A warning message and the Master warning light (
) are displayed on the instrument cluster. Note that
this is a protective measure and does not indicate a permanent malfunction of the Kia Carnival Safe Exit Assist
hardware.
The Safe Exit Assist system is designed to resume normal operation once the foreign material or external attachments
(such as a trailer) are removed and the vehicle is restarted. If the Kia Carnival system does not operate correctly
after clearing the sensors, please have the vehicle inspected by an authorized Kia dealer.
WARNING
-
Even if a specific warning message is not currently displayed on the instrument cluster, the Safe Exit Assist
system may not function properly if the sensors are partially obscured.
-
The system may not operate correctly in expansive, open areas where objects are not detected, or if the sensors
are blocked by snow or debris immediately after the Kia Carnival is turned on.
NOTICE
You can verify the status of your Kia Carnival safety systems by checking the service messages within the utility
information view of the instrument cluster display window.
CAUTION
To avoid false alerts, always turn off the Safe Exit Assist function before installing or removing a trailer, cargo
carrier, or other rear attachments on your Kia Carnival. Re-enable the system only when the task is finished.
The Safe Exit Assist (SEA) system in your Kia Carnival may occasionally experience reduced performance or produce
unexpected alerts under specific environmental conditions, including:
-
Exiting the vehicle in areas with dense, overgrown foliage that might interfere with sensor detection.
-
Exiting the vehicle on wet road surfaces or during heavy rain, which can affect radar reflection.
-
When an approaching vehicle is traveling at an exceptionally high or very low speed, potentially complicating
the Kia Carnival system's ability to categorize the hazard.
NOTICE
For more in-depth technical details regarding the detection limitations of the rear corner radar, please refer to the
"More Details" section of your Kia Carnival owner's manual.
WARNING
-
The Safe Exit Assist system may not function properly if subjected to intense electromagnetic wave
interference.
-
Please note that the system may be unavailable for approximately 3 seconds immediately after starting your Kia
Carnival, as the rear corner radars require a brief initialization period.
-
If the condition causing an obstruction or system fault remains unresolved, the Safe Exit Assist function may
fail to operate correctly even after restarting your Kia Carnival.
