Kia Carnival: Windows / Window opening and closing

The Kia Carnival features intuitive power window controls designed for ease of use and passenger comfort. You can effortlessly manage each window using the dedicated switches located on the door armrests.

Type A: Standard Window Operation

For manual control, press down or pull up the front portion of the switch to the first detent position (5). Hold the switch until the window reaches your desired height, then release it to stop.

Type B: Auto Up/Down Window Operation

For one-touch operation, pull up or press the power window switch momentarily to the second detent position (6). The window will move automatically to its fully opened or closed position, even if you release the switch. To halt the window at any specific point during this automatic cycle, simply tap the switch in the opposite direction or press/pull it briefly.

To reset the power windows

If a window stops responding or the auto-up/down feature becomes inconsistent, the Kia Carnival window system can be easily recalibrated:

  1. Switch the ignition to the ON position (ENGINE START/STOP button).

  2. Fully close the affected window. Once closed, continue to pull and hold the power window switch in the "up" position for at least 1 second to store the new limit.

Automatic reversal (if equipped)

Safety sensors and automatic reversal mechanism in Kia Carnival windows

The Kia Carnival is equipped with an anti-pinch safety system. If the upward travel of the glass is obstructed by an object or a passenger's body part, the system detects the resistance and halts movement immediately. The window will then automatically lower by approximately 11.8 inches (30 cm) to allow for safe clearance of the obstruction.

If the window detects resistance while the switch is being held continuously in the "pull up" position, it will stop and retract by roughly 1 inch (2.5 cm).

Note: For your safety, if the automatic reversal is triggered, avoid pulling the switch up again within 5 seconds, as the system may temporarily disable the reversal feature for that cycle.

Notice regarding activation of automatic reversal in Kia Carnival NOTICE

The automatic reversal feature is designed to activate only when the "Auto Up" function is used by fully engaging the second detent of the switch. It will not be active if you manually hold the switch in the intermediate position.

General safety warning for Kia Carnival power windows WARNING

Always verify that the window path is clear before initiating closure to prevent injury or damage. Be aware that the sensor may not detect very thin objects (less than 0.16 inches or 4 mm in diameter), so exercise constant vigilance in your Kia Carnival.

Warning regarding power window reset mode hazards in Kia Carnival WARNING

The automatic reversal system is disabled during the manual reset procedure. Ensure that no fingers or objects are in the window frame while resetting the power window system in your Kia Carnival.

Caution regarding aftermarket accessories on Kia Carnival windows CAUTION

Avoid installing aftermarket window trim, rain guards, or other accessories that protrude into the window glass channel. These modifications can create excessive friction or block the path, rendering the automatic reversal feature ineffective and potentially causing motor damage.
