The windshield and rear window wiper/washer systems in your Kia Carnival are essential for
maintaining clear visibility under varying weather conditions.

A: Wiper speed control
- MIST: Single wipe cycle.
- OFF: Deactivated.
- INT: Intermittent wipe (or AUTO: Automatic rain-sensing mode, if equipped).
- LO: Low-speed continuous wipe.
- HI: High-speed continuous wipe.
B: Adjustable intermittent/auto-sensitivity delay.
C: Front wash and brief wipe (pull lever toward you).
D: Rear wiper/washer controls (HI continuous, LO intermittent, OFF).
E: Rear wash and brief wipe (push lever away from you).
Windshield wipers
Wiper functions are active when the Kia Carnival ENGINE START/STOP button is in the ON position.
- MIST: Move to this position for a single sweep. Holding it down enables continuous wiping.
- OFF: Wipers are parked.
- INT: Intermittent wiping, perfect for light rain or mist. Speed can be adjusted via the rotary knob.
- LO/HI: Constant speeds for varying intensities of rainfall.
NOTICE
In freezing conditions, never activate the wipers if the windshield is covered in thick snow or ice. First, defrost
the windshield for approximately 10 minutes. Attempting to force the wipers against frozen debris can cause
significant damage to the Kia Carnival wiper motor and the washer system components.
Operating windshield washers
- Ensure the wiper speed control switch is set to the OFF position before initiating the wash cycle.
- Gently pull the lever toward you. This action will spray washer fluid onto the windshield and automatically
trigger the wipers for 1 to 3 cycles. The spray and wiping sequence will persist as long as you hold the lever in
the pulled position.
If the system fails to spray fluid, please verify the washer fluid level. If low, replenish the reservoir with an
appropriate, non-abrasive automotive windshield washer fluid. In the Kia Carnival, the washer fluid
reservoir filler neck is conveniently located in the front of the engine compartment on the passenger side.
CAUTION
To prevent internal damage to the washer pump, never operate the system if the fluid reservoir is empty.
WARNING
During freezing temperatures, do not spray washer fluid without first activating the defrosters to warm the glass. If
the solution freezes upon contact with a cold windshield, it will create an opaque layer that severely obscures your
vision, potentially leading to an accident while driving your Kia Carnival.
CAUTION
- Never operate wipers on a dry windshield; this can cause permanent scratching of the glass and premature wear of
the wiper blades.
- Avoid contact between the wiper blades and solvents such as gasoline, kerosene, or paint thinners, as these will
rapidly degrade the rubber.
- Do not attempt to move the wiper arms manually, as this can damage the linkage and motor components of your
Kia Carnival.
- Always use winter-grade anti-freezing washer fluid when temperatures drop to ensure system integrity.
NOTICE
The windshield wipers of your Kia Carnival are equipped with a safety circuit. They are not designed
to displace heavy snow accumulation. If the motor encounters excessive resistance, it may pause or stop to prevent
overheating or mechanical failure. If your windshield is covered in heavy, packed snow, safely pull over and clear it
manually before engaging the wiper system.
Auto control (if equipped)
The Kia Carnival features an intelligent rain-sensing system. The rain sensor (A), integrated into
the upper edge of the windshield, monitors precipitation levels to automatically adjust the wiping interval. As the
intensity of the rain increases, the wiper speed accelerates accordingly; when the rainfall ceases, the wipers will
automatically stop.

You can fine-tune the sensitivity of this system by rotating the speed control knob (B). Note that when you set the
wiper switch to AUTO mode while the ENGINE START/STOP button is ON, the system will perform a single wipe cycle as a
self-check. Always remember to set the switch to the OFF (0) position when the system is not in use.
CAUTION
To prevent accidental activation and potential injury to your hands or fingers while the engine is running and the
wipers are in AUTO mode, observe the following:
- Do not touch the windshield glass directly in front of the rain sensor.
- Avoid wiping the sensor area with damp or wet cloths during maintenance.
- Do not apply localized pressure to the windshield glass near the sensor housing.
CAUTION
- Always turn the wiper switch to the OFF (0) position before entering an automatic car wash. If left in AUTO mode,
the wipers may activate unexpectedly and suffer damage from the equipment.
- Do not attempt to remove or tamper with the sensor cover on the passenger-side windshield; doing so may void your
Kia Carnival factory warranty regarding electrical components.
- In freezing weather, always ensure the windshield is fully defrosted and cleared of snow/ice before operation to
avoid damaging the wiper blades or the motor mechanism.
- If you are applying window tint, inform the technician to avoid getting fluids or adhesive in the top-center
sensor area, as this can permanently impair system functionality.
Operating rear window wiper and washer switch
The rear window wiper and washer controls for your Kia Carnival are located conveniently at the end
of the main wiper control lever.
- Turn the switch to select your preferred mode:

- HI: Continuous normal wiping.
- LO: Intermittent wiping cycle.
- OFF: Deactivated.
- To spray washer fluid on the rear glass, push the entire lever away from you. This will initiate the spray and
execute several wipe cycles for clear visibility.

For added safety, if your front wipers are currently active and you shift the Kia Carnival into
Reverse (R), the rear wiper will automatically perform a single sweep to ensure you have an unobstructed view of the
area behind you.
As a best practice, always clear accumulated snow and ice from the rear window manually before engaging the wiper to
prevent damage to the blade and the rear wiper motor.
Heated washer nozzle (if equipped)
The heated washer nozzle function is designed to prevent your Kia Carnival from experiencing frozen
washer lines during cold winter months. By automatically thawing the nozzles, it ensures consistent fluid delivery to
your windshield.
The system operates autonomously when the ENGINE START/STOP button is ON or while the engine is running, provided the
ambient temperature conditions are met:
- Activation: The heating element engages when the outside temperature drops below 41 °F (5 °C) and
deactivates once temperatures rise above 50 °F (10 °C).
- Efficiency: Thawing performance is most efficient while the engine is running; expect the system to
defrost the fluid paths within approximately 5 to 10 minutes. When the ignition is ON but the engine is not
running, the process may take slightly longer.
- Battery Protection: To prevent premature battery discharge, the Kia Carnival
automatically shuts off the heating element after 20 minutes of continuous operation.
- Persistence: If the engine remains running, the system may continue to cycle the heating element for
extended periods as needed to maintain clear fluid flow.
NOTICE
The heated washer nozzle system has limitations and may not perform optimally if the washer fluid inside the
reservoir itself is frozen (due to low alcohol content) or if the vehicle’s external temperature sensor is obstructed
or malfunctioning.
